Now you can get the smile you’ve always wanted, regardless of the smile nature gave you.  Today, people who want to look and feel better about themselves can choose to correct their smiles with dental veneers from San Francisco Cosmetic Dental Group.

I’ve heard a lot about dental veneers in San Francisco.  What exactly are they?  Are they a good option, for me?  Porcelain veneers, at San Francisco Cosmetic Dental Group, are truly remarkable restorations, when they are the treatment of choice.  Right here, in San Francisco, dental veneers can whiten your smile, straighten your smile, close gaps in your smile, lengthen  your teeth for a more visible smile, replace broken discolored fillings in your smile, and generally and improve your smile.

A veneer is a thin, porcelain shield that is bonded to the enamel, the front surface of the tooth.  They are bonded directly to the teeth surface, so they function just like your own teeth.  They are, more or less, your own teeth, only improved!  Dental veneers, from San Francisco Cosmetic Dental Group are an excellent solution for correcting spaces between your teeth, imperfections in tooth position (such as rotations), poor color, poor shape or contours, and some bite problems.  They are also used for dramatic improvements on people who have worn down their teeth over the years.

Dental veneers from San Francisco Cosmetic Dental Group can now be processed a thin as a contact lens, yet still be very strong.  This provides beauty and strength, while preserving your natural tooth structure.  That means you can correct a wide variety of unsightly dental conditions such as tooth discoloration, noticeable gaps, permanent stains, broken or misshapen teeth, even revitalize existing crowns without having to replace them.  Because they are so thin, often there is no drilling, no shots and no pain!  There is no removal of sensitive tooth structure.  They are safe for even the most sensitive of patients.

What is a porcelain veneer?  Porcelain veneers from San Francisco Cosmetic Dental Group are thin porcelain shields that are bonded to the front of your teeth to create dramatic changes to your smile.

Is there any pain involved?  NO!  Because these are razor-thin, these veneers require little to no preparation.  That means there is no need for shots or drilling, with no removal of painful tooth structure, in most cases.

How long will it take to change my smile?  Generally, you can have your smile makeover can be completed in as few as two dental visits.

How do I know if veneers are right for me?  When in San Francisco, a dental veneers consultation can be made with Dr. Rose or Dr. Roth.  We can show you how your smile can be improved quickly and easily.

How long will porcelain veneers last?   Long-term clinical research has shown that porcelain veneers can last even 20 years with 100% retention and no discoloration.

What happens to my teeth after veneers?  Will they ever get cavities?  Veneers are bonded to existing teeth.  While the veneers themselves won’t decay, your teeth still can.  That being said, there is no higher incidence of decay provided the veneers (and underlying teeth) are cared for with regular flossing and brushing with toothpaste.  In general, it is good dental advice to keep your sugar consumption low and confined to mealtime to prevent decay.

Once placed, porcelain veneers are very strong, and will resist most of the forces placed upon them by a normal diet.  Porcelain is a glass and, like glass, it is strong, but brittle.  Therefore, you should avoid anything that will tend to stress the veneer.  Opening pistachio nuts with your teeth, chewing on bones or candy apples is probably not a good idea.

If I have upper teeth treated with porcelain veneers, will my lower teeth still be a different color, or more yellow?  This is certainly a factor that should be discussed during your evaluation and smile design so that everything matches and blends well.  Most patients usually whiten the lower teeth to ensure a good match.

Do porcelain veneers stain with normal things like tea, coffee and wine?  Porcelain veneers shouldn’t stain; however if your teeth have a propensity to stain, you should try to avoid or minimize the behaviors that lead to staining and look after them as recommended above with normal hygiene and maintenance procedures.

Does dental insurance cover porcelain veneers?  Some insurance companies will cover up to 50% of the fee they deem customary.  However, it depends upon what your employer has contracted for with your dental insurance company rather than what your dentist is charging.  Don’t forget your dentist also has to pay the dental technician who actually fabricates the veneers, a critical component of the fee.
